About Me

Welcome!

Hi. My name is Rachel. I am the Adjunct Minded Professor.

What is an Adjunct Minded Professor?

Well a bit "absent-minded" (probably due to trying to be in multiple places at once) + long time part-time turned full-time professor who stays connected to their roots.

Background

I'd like to imagine myself as a "retired" psuedo-NASCAR driver that put in more driving hours per week than Jimmy Johnson (too bad I didn't get his salary 😂). Each week I had a fast paced commute from one school to another (for legal reasons, I will say I was driving the speed limits). I spent more than 20 hours each week driving. I was commuting on average to 3 or 4 different campuses and teaching anywhere from 9 to 14 classes at any given time (part online/part in-person).

I commuted all over Southern California from 2010 - 2018 as a part-time faculty member. I taught in public and private institutions, online, remote and in-person, at universities and community colleges.

Now, I am a full-time professor at a community college. I have not forgotten my roots. Now that I am tenured, I feel more secure in creating this website to discuss my experience as a part-time and tenure track faculty member.

I am hoping that this website may be of help to anyone: looking to go into teaching, seeking full-time positions, aiming to continue on as part-time lifer, or looking for a mentor in education.

I am offering services to invest in your future for anyone looking for more hands on guidance in navigating the faculty and educational experience and working through the application process. Let me know how I can help you to reach your goals!

Rachel
